Is not always fun to be a programmer, it very much depends on how much you like the company you work to, the project you're working on, and also the PEOPLE around you. I really felt and agreed with one of the underlying concepts that YOU CONTROL YOUR CAREER not your boss, or the company. If you don't like where things are headed YOU MUST MAKE THE CHANGE. Anyone that's a programmer should be always trying to learn and always trying to be passionate about what they do. And of course, "Always be the Worst." I really enjoyed reading the book and found it to be a great companion to Code Complete, and Code Craft.
